Remember Your “Why” {Personal & Professional}

Sometimes it takes a small dose of reality to get you back to your “why”. When I say that, I mean your why for your business.

Piper, my oldest, goes to PM Kindergarten.  For those of you that are lucky enough to have full day Kindergarten, this means that Piper catches the bus at 11:15am.  That means that even though I’m working in the morning, I can hang out with her a little bit before she catches the bus.  I can sit at the bus stop with my kid.

But then yesterday came.  Wrenny Penny, my youngest, has the flu. I sent her to school yesterday totally fine – no fever, excited, and ready to go for a fun day at school.  About 4 hours later, the school called.  She had a fever, and was not acting like herself.  When I picked her up, her fever was higher, and I took her to the doctor.  They diagnosed her with the flu, we came home, and snuggled all day.

A worrisome story (she’s MUCH better today) made me realize that this was the original reason that I started Misty Saves the Day.  As Wrenny has gotten bigger, and has started to go to school, I kind of forgot that I started a company to spend more time with my family.  That may be shitty to say, but it’s true.

When yesterday happened and I was able to spend all day snuggled with her on the couch (she didn’t want to be anywhere else), and I could tell my clients that I wasn’t working that day – that’s why I do what I do.  I work ahead so I can take days off when I need it; however, I’ve gotten so into working ahead that I’ve forgotten to take the time. When I was forced to yesterday, it made me realize that I needed to do more of that.  It shouldn’t take my daughter getting sick for me to spend more time with the kids in the morning, or take days off when Wren is home with me.

This morning, I started my morning off a little differently.  I snuggled with both girls on the couch and watched My Little Pony.  Wrenny started to feel better and I started work a little later than usual.  Things are getting done, and they’re getting done in a timely manner.  I’m getting back to that work/life balance that I’ve preached so many times before.

I started Misty Saves the Day so I could control my work/life balance, and so others could do the same.  That’s what I can give you.  I give you your own work/life balance while giving myself my own.
