When we started working on the pier shoot that was featured in Coastal Virginia Bride (see my blog post about it here), I had this idea in my head that I wanted it to be like my love story with my husband, but not necessarily in a way that you would know unless you knew us when we were 17. This Virginia Beach engagement styled session was the first part of our day with our models. It was the perfect way for them to get to know each other. As a result, we ended up with some pretty incredible photos for the magazine.
Here’s my love letter to my husband, paired with the never-before-seen first part of the pier photoshoot with backstory.
Chris & I met in high school, so a lot of our dates were quick ones (especially on school nights). They usually involved taking a trip to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront for photobooth fun and pool at Flipper McCoy’s. Maybe we’d grab a snack somewhere, maybe we’d play skeeball, but either way, we spent time together at this place on Atlantic Avenue for a better part of our senior year in high school. He used to tell me he loved me with this jukebox (that’s gone now, which breaks my heart), by playing all the precious little classic love songs – I’m pretty sure it was “All of My Love” by Led Zeppelin and “She Loves You” by the Beatles.
Most of all, that place holds a special place in my heart. When we planned the pier photoshoot, it was all about showing what a quintessential Virginia Beach wedding looked like to me. Here’s a cool homage to VB and growing up and falling in love with my husband. I’m excited to say that Let’s Wed Hampton Roads also featured it today – so be sure to check it out!
