Do you just hate your job sometimes? Do you wish that you could spend less time doing it, or remember what the passion of doing it used to feel like? Some of the time, does it feel like what was once a hobby or a passion is now a chore? I think every business owner has felt the struggle of work-life balance. When you own your own company, you have the incredible difficulty to manage having a life while having a salary. As someone who is the Queen of choosing one over the other, I’ve started to take more time to really delve into how I can make working work for me.
Part of being an entrepreneur is realizing that you have to work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life. Initially, people really focus on it only being about making your own schedule, being your own boss, being a “girl boss” – or whatever term you want to use for the badassery that comes with being an entrepreneur. What they DON’T talk about is that people fail, and that, in large part, is due to not knowing when to quit, when to delegate tasks, when to outsource, when to hire employees. Those are the REAL things that people need to hear.
Hiring my first employee
I remembered when I hired my first employee. Ashley was (and still is) an amazing employee for Misty Saves the Day. It was a hard pill to swallow, that I needed help. With my schedule, my time for my family, and the lifestyle that I wanted to lead, I had to make a choice, and I chose to have an employee.
What does that mean for Misty Saves the Day? It means that I could work a little less while still giving my clients an exceptional customer service experience. It means that I can delegate things to Ashley that I don’t have time to do in order to focus on having a life outside of this company. What it also meant is me, as a person (because we sometimes forget that entrepreneurs are people, too), could have a life that I love.
