It’s #throwbackthursday, so I was checking out blog posts to share that I loved, even though I wrote them oh-so-long-ago, but are still relevant today. There are more than you may think. What I came to realize though, were the little things. For example: my website is almost two years old (which is insane to me!). That means that it’s almost time to jazz it up again and see what I can come up with (that’s tough because I love my website). Fun fact: you should switch up your website about once every three years. Sure, I’ve got a year and a half under my belt with this website, but I already know and have made note of the things that I want to change. Here’s the overall point of this blog: you’ve got to look back to look forward.
Goals Need to Be Based on Where You’ve Been
Do you make goals for yourself and your business? Do you know where you want to be in 10 years? In 5? In 2? Are you tracking whether or not you’re getting there? I set projections for each year based on the last, and make goals for the company to know if I’m growing at a healthy rate so I don’t burn out (or so I can hire an employee or two if I need to!). There’s no way to do this and do it well if you aren’t spending a little time looking back.
Business is stressful. Sometimes looking back means looking at things you don’t want to remember, like the hardship of when you first started. Do you know why it’s important to remember that? Know where your clients came from. Know how you got to where you are. Be grateful for it.
Are You Adapting?
As business owners, we get in our own way – ALL the time. We think about the things that we want, the way that we want them to be, but we don’t necessarily take the time to look back at how far we’ve come in such a short period of time. Misty Saves the Day has been around for two years now, but I’ve already found ways to grow and adapt the business in that period of time. I’m always going to offer social media services – it’s the core of what I do. I’ve added in submissions, styled shoots, marketing plans, and more because my clients asked for it, and I could fulfill the task and then some. I’ve added on employees to make sure that my clients are well taken care of. I changed my logo and updated my brand (and the website) a little bit once I found my voice.
The main picture for this post was taken almost exactly two years ago, when my first business cards came in. I loved them (and still do). This picture was taken today, with my new business cards, a new logo, Piper’s super messy marker hands because she was doing artwork, and a different outlook on business.
Businesses are a living, breathing thing. Misty Saves the Day is no longer a little baby that I’m trying to build from the ground-up. It’s a living, breathing, teenager that I’m trying to make sure continues to stabilize into a well-functioning adult. That’ll make one of us 😉
I’m in the process of making some pretty cool new packages that I can’t wait to roll out. Interested in Misty Saves the Day? Send me an email, and I’ll send you the new packages and we can talk more about how we can help your business!
