There is something about the beach vacation that can feel like the epitome of family fun. I think it has to do with hardly wearing shoes and the way a sandwich tastes after a full morning on the beach. You stay up a little later, play absurd card games, and cram together on couches. It is chaos and there are no fewer than two trips to Wal-Mart because someone forgot something. Amidst the noise and waiting for your turn in the shower, there is laughter and shouting…a beautifully familiar sound that you don’t hear enough of. It is pure magic. When the Vokin family met me at Sandbridge Beach and shared part of that family magic with me, it was an absolute treat.
Take a look for yourself.
Large family gatherings can be intense for photographers. It can be hard enough to get four people looking at the camera at once, let alone 14! The Vokin’s were naturals. They realized that tiny humans are best captured being playful, breaking into smaller groups does not mean lessening the fun factor, and group hugs are the freaking best. There is also something so special about seeing multiple generations all together. You have a chance to see the similarities between faces. Noses crinkle the same way and eyes are perfect matches. The love shared by two people is expanded by the creation of new relationships and families. So – in a way – who cares if everyone isn’t looking at the camera? The purpose of a picture isn’t to be perfectly posed. Maybe the purpose is to capture the love that was and is.
You can see the past, the present, and the future in one image.
You know I love a good fun fact. The Vokin family may have met me at the Sandbridge Beach, but they are actually from Pennsylvania! Makes the whole gallery just a little bit cooler.
I love a good family session. Whether it is your family of four, or your family of ten. It can be the family you were born into or the family you chose. Honestly, just show up with some amazing people that you love a whole lot. And don’t wait too long to book me! I am already full for most of the summer months but still have some availability for September, October, and November. You can send me an email at misty@mistysavestheday.com or shoot me a text at 757-620-0082. Hope to see you soon(-ish)!
