Why We’re Watching this business:
A locally born idea, a creative entrepreneur, and a business that’s bringing something new to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
A few years ago, Misty and Phoebe took a trip to Charleston, South Carolina. As they explored the city, they quickly discovered one of the best ways to get from place to place: pedicabs.
Riding beneath the palmetto fronds and past Charleston’s historic row houses, they started thinking…
Wouldn’t pedicabs be a great idea for Virginia Beach?
Think about it. From the busy Oceanfront during tourist season to the ViBe District, the Historic Cavalier, and the North End beaches, there are plenty of places where a pedicab could be the perfect way to get around.
So imagine our delight when, a few years later, we spotted a pink pedicab cruising down the Virginia Beach Oceanfront bike path.
Obviously, we had to find out more. We reached out to Stanton, the owner, and learned that the company behind that very pink pedicab is Pinky’s VB. And just like that, a business we’d once dreamed about seeing in Virginia Beach was actually here.
Meet Pinky’s VB
Pinky’s VB was approved by Virginia Beach City Council to operate between 1st Street and 42nd Street along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Today, they’re on the road seven days a week, giving visitors and locals another fun way to get around.
Right now, Pinky’s VB has three pedicabs on the road and plans to grow quickly.
For those ready to hop on for a ride, fares are typically $1 per person, per minute. You can book a ride through the Pinky’s VB website or follow them on Instagram for immediate rides and advance reservations.
So, Who Is Stanton?
We love a good local business story, but we especially love the people behind the businesses.
Stanton was born and raised in Virginia Beach and has lived here most of his life, with the exception of his time at the College of Charleston.
It was during his college years in Charleston that he first became familiar with pedicabs. They’re a popular way to get around the city, but interestingly enough, Stanton never worked for one of the pedicab companies there.
The idea came later.
He’s a self-proclaimed Facebook Marketplace “addict,” and about 18 months ago, he happened to come across two pedicabs for sale in North Carolina.
And apparently, that was all it took. The wheels—literally—started turning.
Instead of simply thinking, “That would be cool,” Stanton reached out to the City of Virginia Beach and asked if he could pitch the idea. His first presentation was to the Parking, Pedestrian, and Transportation Committee.
Fast-forward about 16 months from that initial meeting, and Pinky’s VB received approval to operate from the Cavalier Resort all the way down to the 1st Street Jetty.
That’s a pretty impressive journey from scrolling Facebook Marketplace to cruising the Virginia Beach Oceanfront in a pink pedicab.
Why Pinky’s VB Is a Business to Watch
At Misty Saves the Day, we love finding businesses that bring something new to our community. Pinky’s VB is exactly that.
It’s a unique idea that fits the personality of Virginia Beach, gives visitors another way to experience the Oceanfront, and creates opportunities for other local businesses.
And we have a feeling this is just the beginning. We haven’t taken our first ride yet, but it’s definitely on our list. We can’t wait to hop in, see the Oceanfront from a different perspective, and share the experience with you.
Because when we see a great local business come to Virginia Beach, we want to do more than just notice it.
We want to share it, support it, and cheer it on.
We’re excited to see where Stanton’s entrepreneurial spirit—and those three pink pedicabs—take Pinky’s VB next.
Pinky’s VB is definitely a Virginia Beach business to watch.
