Growth always feels amazing, especially when it’s organic growth like I’ve experienced with Misty Saves the Day. Lauren came on as an intern with me a few months ago. Since then she has soared and learned so much. I’m happy to introduce her as the newest part-time Misty Saves the Day employee. Some of you may already know her if you’re local to the Hampton Roads community! She wrote today’s blog (at my request!) – so get to know her a little bit better with me:
Introduce yourself:
Hi guys! My name is Lauren and I am thrilled to be an official employee of Misty Saves the Day! I’ve interned with Misty over the last few months and have loved every minute of it!
What’s your background?
I’m semi-new to the wedding industry and have been doing wedding related stuff for about a year. I studied Public Relations and Communications at JMU (Go Dukes!), which is my first love. With a hope to get into PR post-graduation, I found that it didn’t happen right away. I worked a 9-to-5 job while “planning (I say this loosely because I had a lot of help)” my own wedding in 2015. After getting married in 2016, I coordinated my best friend’s wedding and realized I loved everything about weddings and events! Shortly after, I found Holly of Just Dandy Events, worked as a wedding planning intern, fell in love with it and then met Misty! Misty is what led me to my current position as the day-of wedding coordinator/assistant event manager at The Yacht Club at Marina Shores.
Tell them you love me:
Speaking of Misty, she’s probably the raddest person I’ve ever met. I think we’re probably total opposites- I’m type A and a total perfectionist, she’s more laid back- and I love that she balances me out! She’s helped me figure out my professional goals, dive deeper into my creative side and learn how to let stuff go. Needless to say, I’m super thankful for her friendship!
Why are you good at this?
Like I said, I’m super Type A and require things to be just so. I love making people happy, especially brides and strive to make their best day ever as perfect as possible (within my control). I love what I do and I think that translates in every wedding I coordinate (and social media account I create content for). My organization, attention to detail and communication skills have helped me succeed in my job. I know that wedding coordination and PR are what I’m meant to be doing with my life- I’ve got the “wedding planner” bun and social media content to prove it!
What’s your favorite thing in the entire world?
I have so many favorite things, it’s hard to choose just one! Anyone that knows me will tell you how much I’m addicted to Kate Spade. If it’s got her name on it, I have to have it! I feel like her brand is just the right amount of feminine, modern and a little quirky, which describes me to a “T.” I’ve used her brand to inspire styled shoots, my own wedding, my home decor, the list goes on.
Biggest fear?
I’m afraid of a few things but I absolutely cannot stand anything that slithers, crawls or has more than four legs. I don’t do bugs or the outdoors- I’d much rather stay inside snuggled up on the couch watching Law & Order: SVU or Pretty Little Liars.
Favorite moment in a wedding:
Ugh, I love weddings! I think my favorite part of the day from a coordinator’s perspective is watching the bride and groom exchange vows. It brings me back to the feeling of exchanging vows with my husband and usually gets me pretty emotional! My favorite part of weddings as a guest usually involves the fun stuff- I’m a sucker for cute details and wedding cake!
One silly fact/quote/story to sum up who you are as a person:
“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says “I’m possible!” Audrey Hepburn
Please leave Lauren some love, and welcome her to the Misty Saves the Day family!
