When you think of self-care and business one might think of a nail salon, a spa and also actual therapy. Those are all great things for self-care but we thought, “what about the people that are into other things? What’s something someone could do for self-care that might not come to mind right away because it’s not the normal answer? What forms of self-care could last longer than a massage or a pedicure?”
We cycled through our brain rolodex of businesses we love in the area and didn’t have to go far into the rolodex until All Hands Pottery popped into our minds. They are a perfect business to highlight for this!
All Hands Pottery is a community studio located in Norfolk, Virginia, founded by Angela Tilley. A United States Navy veteran, she spent over nine years overseas — with tours in Italy, Bahrain, Germany, and Iraq. After a deployment to Iraq, Angela discovered pottery and it changed her life. She began taking lessons in 2011, and continued while stationed in Germany.
Back in the United States, Angela began teaching wheel throwing at the D’Art Center and The Hermitage Museum and Gardens, and by 2016 was selling her work at shows and galleries under the name Angeltil Pottery. In 2018, she opened All Hands Pottery Studio in Norfolk, VA — a space built on the belief that clay and art have real therapeutic and healing power, and that creativity belongs to everyone regardless of skill level or background.
The studio proudly caters to individuals of all skill levels, emphasizing the importance of creativity and therapeutic art.
“At All Hands Pottery, we believe in providing a welcoming space for all. Our core values include fostering creativity, encouraging community engagement, and enhancing well-being through the therapeutic benefits of pottery and art. We strive to support lifelong learning and exploration for everyone who walks through our doors.” – Angela Tilley
People from all walks of life walk through the doors of All Hands Pottery Studio, and they continue to come back for a reason. Some are looking for a new hobby. Others are seeking a way to unplug from work, screens, and the demands of everyday life. For some, it’s something even deeper—a place to work through stress, anxiety, worry, or PTSD.
Whatever brings them in, All Hands Pottery offers something special: a place to slow down, create, and connect. In a city that’s constantly moving, the studio has become a place of solace, community, and healing.
At the root of pottery is self-care. It’s about more than your newest favorite mug or perfectly crafted bowl—it’s about slowing down, quieting your mind, and giving yourself space to simply be present.
If getting your hands dirty and creating something from nothing sounds intriguing, we highly recommend giving the spinning wheels at All Hands Pottery a try the next time you’re looking to do something just for yourself.
