When Susan asked me to take updated family photos, I was honored. If you don’t know of Fowler Studios – they were one of our very first clients when we started. Susan is an incredible photographer, so its even more daunting to take photos of someone who you respect from a photography perspective. After the almost ten years that we’ve known each other, I’ve never met Susan’s kids. It was so great to finally get to see their personalities in action – and it was great that they loved having photos taken, too! Truly, you never know with photographer’s kids. My kids sometimes love it and sometimes hate it. These ViBe District family photos were just what they needed. While she and her family live in Hampton, they didn’t mind driving to Virginia Beach for something a little different.
When I asked about what murals were Susan’s favorites, she already had a bunch pulled up – and we made sure we got a few of them. I showed her a few that she didn’t know about yet, too, so that was also cool. At the end of the day, it was just about capturing this point in their lives, and how the kids have grown. Plus, having beautiful, colorful art to put on your wall that’s family related is always great.
When’s the right time to take family photos?
There’s never a good time or bad time for family photos – just the time you want to take them. Part of why I do family photos even though we’re a social media management company is because business owners like Susan still have families that they support and love. Families are the reason I became a photographer. I didn’t have many photos of me and my siblings with our mom growing up. I wanted to learn to be better for my kids.
Photography is all about capturing moments in time, and with kids, those moments go SO fast. One day they’re into pop music, the next you have little alternative kids, the next you’ve got kids graduating from high school. It all happens so quickly, that having photos to remember each of those phases can mean a ton – not just to you as parents, but your kids when they’re older, too. I wish that I had more from mine.
