Creative Mornings Virginia Beach | The Dome and Surf Park

One of the coolest parts of being the photographer for Creative Mornings in Virginia Beach is getting to meet such cool entrepreneurs that are following their dreams in such an inspiring way. I was honored when Kate of ViBe Creative District reached out and asked if I could commit to doing these regularly. I wasn’t quite sure what it would be. I knew there would be speakers, I knew there would be breakfast and networking with the creative community. I don’t think that I could’ve anticipated the level of inspiration that I’d get month after month from the creatives that they bring in to tell their stories, though.

I haven’t been able to make all of the sessions. Sandra Leigh Photography has filled in a few times for me. But last month, the session was with Alec, the architect with the vision behind The Dome and Surf Park in Virginia Beach. It was SO COOL to hear his story about how he loved our city so much after moving here that the Surf Park was part of his college thesis from Virginia Tech. After he came back home, the developers came to his job and he had the opportunity to pitch that same thesis – and the Dome and Surf Park project was born.

There’s tons of cool personal details in there – nods to the history of the Dome site, to the people who helped put it together, like Pharrell, and more.

I haven’t gotten to experience The Dome yet (but I’m going to a concert there in a couple of weeks) – but what I do know is that I love Virginia Beach. I’ve lived here most of my life. When people like Alec come in and make it even better, I’m so eternally thankful for it.
