Professional development is so important, and when you’re a team that’s scattered all over the United States, it can be hard to find ways to keep everyone engaged. Last time everyone was in town for content creation and client meetings, we decided to have a professional development day. We hung out with Owen Van Syckle at Yorkie’s in Virginia Beach while helped us become better storytellers and sales people on behalf of our clients. Owen taught us more about the importance of making real connections – and how to do that in a more organic way.
Why is this important?
It’s important for a lot of reasons. I think it’s easy to get stuck in the rut of “this is how we always have done things.” Misty Saves the Day is going on it’s 10th year in business (we’ll be celebrating 10 years in November). Sure, I’ve had systems and processes over the years that have gotten us this far, but it’s important to acknowledge that GROWTH is what keeps you successful. That means that it’s important not to stay stagnant. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by a team who wants to grow with us and clients who encourage that growth as well.
Owen Van Syckle was amazing and engaging with our team. We’ve already started to implement relevant changes on behalf of our clients, and I think we were all a little inspired to do things a little differently. Our social media management team has seen an increase in our client’s analytics, and it’s just going to get better. When you think about social media, I know it can be overwhelming. We’ve got people like Kelley Stinson, our Director of Education, who’s always keeping us up-to-date on trends and algorithm changes. At the end of the day, though, we’ve got to understand the psychology behind what we do. That’s where Owen Van Syckle came in.
So what’s next?
I’m looking forward to the next time we get together in November. I’m not quite sure what we’re going to do or where we’re going to go – but I know that the professional development won’t stop. Growth means continuing to grow, and even if the amount of clients that we have stay the same, we want to grow FOR them, not just to get new ones. If you want to grow with us – you should send us a message. We’d love to help you with your social media management. At the end of the day, we’re in this to help small businesses. If that’s you – fill out our contact form. Send a carrier pigeon if that’s not your thing, but no promises on response time.
