I was supposed to do photos for Colleen and her family in August, but everyone came to town and we did them the weekend of 4th of July. Being a Norfolk family lifestyle photographer, it was important to showcase the house that this wonderful family grew up in and the life that was built here. I asked her parents how they met – and that might’ve been the sweetest story of all.
Their dad said that when he and her mom were stationed here, he saw a pair of legs through a window. He told his buddy, “I’m going to marry those legs one day.” Now, 60 years later, not only did he marry those legs – they had 4 amazing kids, a plethora of grandkids, and have built a wonderful life together.
Family Photos Should Feel Like This
If you ever wonder why I do what I do, it’s for moments like these. I know that this wonderful family will cherish these photos forever. Usually I don’t work on weekends – but I made it happen for these awesome folks, and I’m glad that I did.
People always want to wait for the right season for family photos. The reality is that there’s no right season – the right time is when you’re all together. If you can work out a time for everyone to be in the same place, get a photographer. You don’t need to do it every time – that’s overkill. Do it every year or every couple of years. Watch your family grow and change. Document it for yourselves and for your kids and for their kids. Let them see where it all started.
Don’t sleep on family photos
I’m already pretty booked for family photos for the fall – which is wild. It’s the middle of August. My October looks insane, and so does September.
