There are some people that photographers get amped to have in front of their camera. You know you are going to have a fun time and get some awesome pictures. When the Jelley family and I started making plans to update their family photos, my creativity started tingling. They are such an incredible example of the type of family – the type of people – that I love working with. It helps that this family is near and dear to my heart.
They are the type of folks that I am glad to have in my life.
I photographed the Jelley family two years ago and it felt like updated photographs were long overdue. I always get excited to travel to the Freemason District in Norfolk, and I was reminded why as I was going through this album. The fall leaves, cobblestone sidewalks, and dramatic mixture of brick and wrought iron served as the perfect backdrop to the laughter and love present during this session. These images feel so genuine to me – full of genuine love, genuine gratitude, and genuine fun. From the faux leather pants to the bare feet, the Jelley family was perfectly themselves. I may also require impromptu tickle fights for all future family sessions. You’ve been warned.
To the Jelley family: we have been friends for over eight years, and I look forward to being a kickass in-law when our children get married. My only regret is that we waited so long to do these pictures. Let’s never make that mistake again.
Family sessions are some of my favorite opportunities to get creative. If you are interested in getting your crew together and having me capture your beautiful faces, you can always get in touch with me through my website or by sending me an email at misty@mistysavestheday.com.
