The highest compliment you can give an entrepreneur is to come back for more. I had the luxury of photographing Alex, Melissa, and Otto last summer with Alex’s side of the family. (Otto is the cutie wearing the bow tie.) When Melissa told me that her side of the family was going to be in town this summer and they wanted updated family images. Even better, they were asking me to do them! Having the chance to capture their family photos at Sandbridge Beach was such a treat. The weather was wonderful and the Cortina smiles were genuine – two things I adore. That might explain why I had such a hard time narrowing down which images from the gallery to share. Seriously, y’all.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am a firm believer in family pictures. It doesn’t have to be as color coordinated as the Cortina family, and your family photos don’t have to be at Sandbridge Beach. If your family doesn’t seem like the type to stand still and pose, then walk around! Play in the water, tickle each other, and laugh at inside jokes. Some of my favorite images of my daughters are the ones that include movement – the wind in their hair as they ride their bikes or the crinkle by their eyes when they are enjoying a sisterly laugh. Those movements are memories.
When you are thinking about your own family images, don’t worry so much about doing it “right.” Just show up, and allow yourself to be awesomely weird and amazing. Stand still or dance around. Match your outfits or be as colorfully mismatched as you please. Although I have to admit that I’m a fan of bow ties, especially on little babes!
So long as you are entirely yourself, I will handle the magic behind the camera.
