I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – life and business and everything is about moments. It’s all about moments. The time that you make big decisions (and maybe that’s the decision to start a business or go full-time) – or the moment you decide who you want to spend the rest of your life with. This Cavalier hotel proposal was such an honor for me to do. It’s one of those things where you don’t realize that you’ll really love photographing certain things until they happen. I didn’t know how much I’d love the pressure and anxiety of photographing proposals until I get to see the emotions that come with doing that in real time.
Heather and Chris are wonderful. Chris called me a few weeks before this grand plan happened after The Cavalier referred me to him to help capture this momentous occasion. He had all his bases covered – down to making sure that Heather couldn’t track her parents or her friends’ locations (since they were all waiting in the Raleigh Room loggia to surprise them with a celebration). Being at the Oceanfront, it was pretty easy to pose a a tourist with a camera (which is what I did). I looked the part of a tourist – less the part of a Cavalier guest – but that made me even less noticeable.
Life’s Moments Should Be Captured
And I get it – not all of them, right? That would be overkill. It’s too much. But moments like this, where you both choose forever, is a pretty great one and a privilege to get to photograph.
