Since starting work with Roc Solid Foundation, I’ve wanted to be able to go to a playset build. This is the program that started it all with Roc Solid Foundation – the idea that volunteers could come together to build hope for families affected by pediatric cancer. Because I second shoot weddings, finding a Saturday that I could come out and photograph a build was tough – but when they told me there was a build happening on September 7th, I knew I had to make it happen – and we did!
It was so cool to see volunteers from The Mermaid Circle come together to build this playset for a little boy who was born with cancer – and the reactions of his family and friends were priceless. I know this is a day that won’t soon be forgotten.
It’s the little things like this that happen that continue to give these families hope during a fight that no family should have to go through. As you go through the photos, I don’t want you to miss this: the volunteers sign the playset with words of encouragement for the family – so that they know that they aren’t in this fight alone. It’s not just the day that the playset is built that gives hope – it’s the days after that. The days spent swinging on the playset, the smiles on the faces of the family during such a tough time, and reading these words of encouragement on the extra hard days.
