We talk a lot about simplifying social media, and one of the biggest opportunities we see businesses miss is this:
You don’t always need more content.
You need to use what’s already there.
Two of the most underused (and easiest) tools that we think are greatly underrated and underused?
Stories and user-generated content (UGC).
Stories: The Easiest Way to Show Up
If posting feels overwhelming, stories are your best friend.
They’re quick, low-pressure, and designed to be temporary. That means they don’t have to be perfect. They don’t have to be curated. They just have to be real.
When’s the last time you were scrolling social media?
Now, when’s the last time you tapped on one story… and before you knew it, you’d gone through 15+ from different people and businesses?
Your personal experience alone tells us how valuable stories can be.
They are where your audience hangs out. They get to see the day-to-day:
- What you’re working on
- What your space looks like
- What just came in
- What you’re excited about
It’s less about creating content and more about sharing moments as they happen.
And the best part? People actually expect stories to feel casual. So if you’ve been holding back because things don’t feel “post-worthy”… this is your permission slip.
The next content that’s already sitting in your tagged photos is User Generated Content!
UGC: The Content That’s Already Made for You
User-generated content is exactly what it sounds like: content your customers are already creating.
A tagged photo.
A review.
A story mention.
A happy customer sharing their experience.
That’s content.
And it’s some of the most powerful content you can have, because it’s not coming from you, it’s coming from someone else.
In marketing, this is often referred to as “social proof.” People trust people. When potential customers see someone else enjoying your product or service, it builds credibility in a way that branded content alone can’t.
We have used this in multiple ways:
- Repost a tagged reel or image.
- Asked on stories for customers to send us pictures pertaining to a particular business account we are running. We can use these for our own reels and posts.
- Pull reviews from Google or Facebook and create a graphic.
- Repost mentions on stories.
Make It Simple
Here’s where people overcomplicate things.
They think they need:
- A full content plan
- Professionally shot videos
- Constantly coming up with new ideas
But in reality, a simple rhythm like this works:
- Post your main content a few times a week.
- Use stories to fill in the gaps.
- Reshare UGC when it comes in.
- Make the ask for User Generated Content when you need it!
And with that, you’re showing up! You’re staying consistent. And you’re using content that already exists.
The Good News? You Don’t Have to Do It All
Social media doesn’t have to feel like a production.
You don’t have to be on camera every day. You don’t have to follow every trend. And you don’t have to reinvent your content constantly.
You just have to show up in a way that feels natural to you, and use the tools that are already built into the platforms.
If social media has started to feel overwhelming, this is your reminder to come back to the basics.
- Use stories to stay present.
- Use UGC to build trust.
- Keep it simple.
Because most of the time, it’s not about doing more. It’s about doing less, better.
