I’ve known Katherine for probably 12 years. Maybe longer. It was cool to get to do these Freemason Norfolk family photos for her. Not only is the Freemason District iconic, but so is she – and her family. You might know Katherine. She owns Katherine Hallberg Design and makes some of the most beautiful backdrops ever. You’ve seen them in Anthropologie stores, which is arguably the coolest thing ever (and so many other places). She also works for us – and we’re all lucky to know her.
This was the first time I got to meet Johnny and Murphy, though – and to see who Katherine does it all for. They were wonderful. Murphy is hilarious and she loves both her parents so much – it was precious. It was SO great to get to take these photos for them. The night was PERFECT for pictures. Like, we literally couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather. They had their own full family session, so it was cool to get to do this for them.
Family sessions aren’t about the perfect time of year, the best locations, or what you’re doing. It’s about who you’re there with, and capturing those moments in time. It’s why I became a photographer – to take family photos like these. I’m so privileged to get to do it, and to do it for amazing people like these guys.
