It can be tough to market your business. What’s great for small towns like Onancock is having Onancock Main Street, a nonprofit, doing things to look out for them and teach them. That was the case with this event that they held a few weeks ago to promote Eastern Shore social media marketing and its importance to keep businesses relevant. We took it a step further, though, and I’m excited about what transpired.
Mike Dragon of Dragon Studio and I went up the day before the event to get a lay of the land and learn more about the town – and create some Reels to use for my presentation. I’d never been to Onancock (more reasons why Eastern Shore social media marketing is so crucial!) – and we learned quickly how amazing it is. Fortunately for the folks of Onancock, their Main Street account does a beautiful job of promoting the businesses, but it was great to sit in a room with so many of those wonderful business owners and teach them how to be their own advocates, too.
Their team put together three businesses to talk to folks about marketing – Soul Shine Design Company and Eastern Shore Marketing. We all focused on different things. My primary focus was the importance of telling your story – and how to use video in different, approachable ways to do that. We did three Reels while we were up there – one that highlighted a restaurant (Blarney Stone Pub), one that interviewed a business owner (Driftwood + Moss), and one that talked about the overall feel of the town. These posts were collaborative, and made to spread the word and show businesses the importance of community and working together.
Go Visit Onancock
Truly, the real takeaway from being in town for me was that I need to go back. When we left, we ate at a great sushi spot. There was amazing food and wonderful hospitality everywhere we went. Onancock has an old movie theater that it’s residents go to weekly. There’s charm and water sports and really anything you could want, but with that small town feel. Go visit. You won’t regret it.
