Ways to Support NonProfits in Your Community | Headshots for a Cause

We’re always looking for ways to support nonprofits in our community. It’s arguably one of the hardest things as a business owner – finding a way to give back that doesn’t sacrifice your ability to be profitable in your own business. As a social media management company, we’re priced in such a way that we can work with nonprofits, but we also want to find ways to give back. My background is in Communications and Counseling, and I briefly worked in the nonprofit world. I know that there is a need for community involvement and interaction, so we’ve been doing everything we can to find ways to do that without sacrificing our ability to run a for-profit business.

When we turned 10, I decided I wanted to raise $5,000 for our local Foodbank. $5,000 equates to 10,000 meals for the people of Coastal Virginia and the Eastern Shore, and that’s huge. Growing up, we had to utilize the Foodbank’s services, so if we can do things to find ways to give back and help kids that were like me? I’m all about it. At our party, we didn’t quite reach our goal through our silent auction, so I decided to throw a headshot event.

I’m fortunate that The Studio Hampton Roads donated their space, and that I was able to donate my time. We raised another $1,050 with this headshot mini-session event for the people of Coastal Virginia. That equates to 2100 meals! That’s SO HUGE. We’re still a little shy of our goal, so if you feel inclined to donate – please do so via this link! There is another $1300 to go to hit our goal, and I know we can do it!

How Can I Help?

You might not have the money to donate. You might not always have the time. Fortunately, and hopefully, you’re able to come up with ideas like this one for those of you that have the kind of heart that wants to give back to the community. Thankfully, we had people who were excited to sign up and put their money to good use. They needed new marketing photos, and they got to give back to the community at the same time. THIS is what real marketing is about. This is why we do what we do. We want to connect people – and we did just that. It was so cool for people to get to meet the next person at this headshot event and find out what they did, and why they chose to be there. We get to connect people while we help people, and that’s so special.

Ways to support nonprofits that you really care about (that don’t cost money):

  1. Hold a silent auction/fundraiser. Invite the community to donate items and bid – and create a space for people to donate.
  2. Have a paid event where proceeds go to the charity of your choosing.
  3. Round up! Give people an option to round up your services or invoicing and let that money go to a charity of your choosing.
  4. Simply share charities and the work that they’re doing on your social media – you might find that someone else wants to donate!
  5. Volunteer! Be part of the solution by helping out in an office or with something that the charity needs – whether it’s once or on a regular basis.

Remember that not everything has to be YOUR money – you can find ways to support charities and the community that work for you.
