I feel nothing short of privilege that we get to work with Lieber Institute of Brain Development, based in Baltimore, Maryland. When we work with nonprofits, it’s always something that pulls at your heart strings a little bit harder. We’re not just working on Maryland nonprofit marketing for Lieber, though. They are working to help find better treatments, and ultimately prevention or cures, for mental diseases and disorders like schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, ADHD and more. The unique part about Lieber, though, is that they aren’t government funded. They don’t rely on grants – they rely on private donations and funding. Their team is made up of some of the smartest people that you’ll ever meet. There are neuroscientists, data scientists, surgeons, chemists, people from all walks of life working towards one common goal.
We do more than create content for Lieber – we also do their social media marketing. Through Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, we’re working to help them build a community of supporters. It’s hard not to get behind their mission and what they do.
Mental Health Matters
The reality is that mental health affects all of us in some way or another. Whether you’ve lost a loved one to mental health disorders, or you have one yourself – you know that there’s still so much unknown. Lieber is trying to resolve that. Through the use of donor brains, they’re hoping to find genetic causes that can create prevention for these diseases. Every time we go (this is our second trip up there), I feel like I’m back in college. There’s so much to learn. Dragon Studio comes with me, and Mike helps make compelling videos that tell the incredible stories of the individuals that are working towards this amazing goal. This time – he interviewed a family member who donated her loved ones’ brain after he committed suicide, as well as me. I’m also a donor. I lost my mom to an accidental prescription drug overdose 11 years ago. She fought her entire life to get ahead of her mental illnesses, and was never quite able to do it. I donate because I don’t want these disorders to continue to affect families like they’ve affected mine.
