Celebrating My 3rd Independence Day {Personal & Professional}

It’s an interesting thing to celebrate, your independence day.  The day that you quit your full-time job and went full-force into your business. That terrifying moment when you leave your regular paycheck, and really start believing in yourself.  That “baby bird, you’ve gotta fly” moment.

Today marks 3 years of my independence. I qualify that as the day that I quit my job and went and got a business license for Misty Saves the Day. It’s INSANE to me that it’s only been three years.  SO much has happened!

Let’s recap: I started off as just a social media manager (and I say “just” very lightly). All I did was Facebook & Instagram for my clients.  Then one day, an awesome client requested that I style for a shoot for them, since they knew that I did a lot of that in my previous life.

That grew into 40 shoots a year.  FORTY.  Then blogging.  Submissions. And maybe one of my favorite things that I do, marketing consulting.

It hasn’t been easy.  Owning a business is hard.  I’ve had moments that I’ve wanted to give up.  Those times that you miss out on moments with your family because you’re working, or don’t have a day off for 21 days.  It’s all worth it, though.  Being able to control your business – decide what you want to do, how you want to grow it – that’s been one of the most rewarding things that I’ve ever done.

What’s been new this year?  Second shooting.  Ultimately it’s always been my goal to support other businesses. Whether that’s through social media management, consulting for their marketing, creating awesome content shoots, or, now, second shooting for weddings.

I had an interesting conversation with a client the other night.  She said that she doesn’t know how I do it – how I take on the burdens of other businesses and don’t let it get to me.  I LOVE it.  I love being able to be there for people. I love getting to learn about new businesses and how they operate.  I love getting to speak for people, and help them grow.

3 years down, forever to go.  Misty Saves the Day is here to stay and I can’t wait to see what’s to come.
