Volunteering at the Foodbank {Southeastern VA & Eastern Shore}

I recently stopped by the Foodbank to capture some photos for their social media accounts. Do you want to hear something really great? Over the past few months they have received so many incredible donations. Every single cent and food item makes such a difference! With so many out of work due to Covid-19 the demand has been high. It is really great that the Foodbank is able to help so many people in Southeastern VA & on the Eastern Shore. If you’ve ever been interested in volunteering at the Foodbank now would be an incredible time to start! The Foodbank is incredibly busy and extra hands are always helpful.

There are a few requirements in place for volunteering at the Foodbank. At-risk and vulnerable populations are strongly discouraged from helping out at this time. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to stand in for the Quality Assurance shift and 12-15 years of age to volunteer for the Youth and Family shift. Volunteering at the Foodbank requires the ability to lift at least 35lbs. Youth volunteers can be accompanied by an adult.

As for safety measures, all volunteers will be required to bring and wear their own face mask or covering. When you arrive for your shift an employee will check your temperature at the door and require you to fill out a health waiver. The Foodbank has ensured that social distancing guidelines can be maintained, and they’ve also set up hand sanitizing stations all throughout the building. Another really awesome thing? If you didn’t know it – the Foodbank also helps with toiletries and diapers for infants and babies. If you’ve been thinking about donating, those items are always very appreciated and needed!

Overall I felt incredibly safe in their building. It is so obvious that they are taking every step possible to keep their employees and volunteers healthy. It makes sense, really. They are a caring organization focused on helping others. For more information on volunteering click here!
