Social Media Won’t Save Your Business {Tips & Tricks}

Social media won’t save your business.  I’m just going to come out and say it.  I know that it’s a tough pill to swallow, and probably a lot to hear coming from a social media manager.  It’s important for you to remember that social media won’t save your business, it will only ENHANCE your business.  Let me explain.

“Your biggest risk isn’t failing, it’s getting comfortable.” – Drew Houston

A lot of times, when people come to me, they’re coming because they know that social media will enhance their business.  It will help them grow their business to an even bigger success.  Every once in a while, though, I get the people who want social media to completely solve their problems, and I’ve got news for you: it won’t.

You can throw money at social media.  Whether it’s through outsourcing to someone like me, Facebook and Instagram ads – anything.  You can throw money at it and hope that money comes back (and it usually will in some shape or form), but don’t assume that means that you’re going to be able to live off of that income.

Don’t get comfortable with where you’re at.  Always look to the future, always be thinking ahead.  Create content before you need it.  Join networking groups to get your name out there.  Get client feedback in order to grow and be better.  Find out how people are finding you and put your efforts there.  Is Instagram where it’s at for your business?  Then focus a majority of your efforts there, while still building other aspects of the business.  You never know where business is coming from, so you need to be multi-faceted in order to be successful.

You’ve got to do more than social media in order to be successful in business.  That’s the point of all of this.  You have to network, you have to put yourself out there, you have to have a functional website, you have to have real content to be posting.  You need MORE than social media for these things.  Social media won’t save your business – but it will enhance it if you do all the other things that I mentioned.

Why would you want to hire a social media manager then?

You hire me because you value what social media can do for your business.  You hire me because you understand that there’s growth potential in social media, even if there’s no promise that it will SAVE you.  Hire me because you know that your time is valued in other places, so you want someone to focus on social media for you.  Don’t hire me to save your business, though.  I can’t do that for you – only you can do that for yourself.
