2017 in Review {Personal & Professional} Part 1 of 3

I love a good “year in review” and 2017 was an incredible one.  If you can believe it – I did FORTY styled shoots this year.  FORTY.  Let me be clear that means that a lot of them didn’t make their way into the blog – but only because I had to keep it shorter!  Be sure that you’re following me on Instagram, because I’m going to start posting a pic a day from all the awesome stuff that happened this year!  I gained some amazing clients.  The company grew and we added in Lauren, who is amazing.  We built websites.  2017 was REALLY busy and I’m super grateful for everyone who made it such an incredible success.  Get ready…this blog is going to be chock full of goodness.

Working with ISO:EDU and Virginia Wedding Week started the year off beautifully – we got to do this epic styled shoot as part of a workshop for professionals day – and the feast created by Traditions Catering for our tablescape was incredible.  Mike Dragon conceptualized it and it was pretty freaking fantastic.  See more here.  We had three incredible workshops this year, and are looking forward to ISO:EDU Academy next year.  Don’t know what that is?  Check it out!

I got to drive all the way to Raleigh for an awesome shoot with Rowan Lane Events and Nieto Photography at the beautiful Raleigh Rose Garden.  The 3 hour trip was totally worth it and I got to meet some really incredible vendors.  Check out the shoot’s feature here.

ISO:LUX was born in 2017, too – with super awesome and incredible boudoir that’s styled and amazing and terrific.  I even did it!  I can’t wait to share with you guys all the awesome things happening in 2018 for ISO:LUX – let me know if you want to be part of it!

We got a pretty cool opportunity to style a shoot while Waterside was being constructed in downtown Norfolk, and we came up with this epic image.  It was such a blast (and also a freezing cold one), but our models were amazing!  Photo by Dragon Studio.

My bestie, Staci Jelley, took a road trip with me to Roanoke for an epic photoshoot with Chelsea Anderson Photography on an incredible rooftop.  See more from that fantastic shoot here.

I got to work with Maria Grace Photography on a beautiful shoot at Chrysler Museum of Art that was featured on Every Last Detail – and those copper details were to die for!

We took a trip to the mountains with another family and had a blast going to the Virginia Safari Park, Natural Bridge, and a few other gorgeous places and took some real time to get away and enjoy friends and friendship and family.

The new office was a labor of love.  Trying to find frames that I loved, furniture that I love, and making it all work in our dining room (that clearly isn’t a dining room anymore), was WELL worth it.  I’m so glad that I have this space to meet with clients, work, and that really fits the quintessential Misty Saves the Day vibe.  Photo by Dragon Studio.

We brought on Lauren this year, and she’s been incredible, helping with my social media accounts and just being a joy in general to work with.  If you don’t know Lauren, you should.  She’s pretty fantastic.

I got to do a super fun and beautiful shoot with Tashena Shaw Photography at The WaterTable that was featured on Tidewater and Tulle.  Working with Tashena this year was great – she’s always been so supportive of Misty Saves the Day and ISO:ALT/EDU!

I started assisting at weddings this year, too.  It was a LOT of fun and I’m really glad that I’ve been doing it.  In all my time in the wedding industry, I never actually got to GO to the weddings, and now I get to do something else that I love, but isn’t part of my business!  I love it a lot, and I’m looking forward to doing more of that in 2018.

I got to co-chair the ILEA gala this year, and it was INCREDIBLE.  I loved working with such awesome vendors to bring “A Night Under the Stars” to life.  Stage Right Lighting did an awesome job transforming The Historic Post Office – see more photos here from Dragon Studio.

An incredible shoot with Kelley Stinson Photography at The Obici House!  This was our first time working together, and now I’m excited to be working on Instagram with her as well.  She’s pretty fantastic!  See more from the shoot here.

An epic trip to the mountains for an equally epic photoshoot with Mike Dragon of Dragon Studio and Liz Darling of Darling & Dapper turned into one of the most incredible shoots of the year under the Milky Way (with not one photoshopped star!).  Featured on ISO:ALT, see more here.

A super cool shoot for the fashion feature of Coastal Virginia Magazine landed the cover – and that was really exciting this year!  And how about those wood-burned menus from Ceindy DoodlesSee more from our fun shoot here.

I got to work with the awesome Will Hawkins Photography on a styled shoot that was featured on The Perfect Palette – and his images were breathtaking as always!  Such a gorgeous shoot and some amazing vendors.  See more here.

This shoot isn’t out yet – so I can’t share any of the images other than this behind-the-scenes from Erika Mills Photography of Blush Tones doing her thing at Norfolk Botanical Garden.  I can’t wait to share this stunning shoot with you!

We did some family photos with Valerie Demo right before our sweet Maggie pup died, and I’m so glad that we have these pictures to remember her by.

Another shoot that I can’t quite share with you yet, so I’m going to share a little behind-the-scenes – this awesome shoot with OutLife 757!  I can’t wait to share the images from this fun day with you!

Potentially my favorite pic from our family photos with Dragon Studio – if you don’t realize it, Wrenny is totally pulling Piper’s hair – because this is our REAL life and I love it.

And, finally, this was just yesterday!  I loved working with Caitlin and Ryan of Caitlin Gerres Photography yesterday at Woman’s Club of Portsmouth.  I can’t wait to see their incredible images, and share them with you when the feature comes out!

What’s crazy is this whole blog was just a snippet – there were some shoots that aren’t in here, some features, the websites that we did, the adventures that we went on that didn’t make it.  Misty Saves the Day has grown exponentially since 2016, and truly and honestly, I couldn’t have done that without the support of our amazing clients, my family, my friends, and all of you. Thanks for always being such a huge supporter of everything that I do!
